Summary
What happened, as the record shows.
On the night of April 11, 1981, Glenna “Sue” Sharp, 36, was in Cabin 28 of the Keddie Resort in Plumas County, California, with her children and a guest. Her daughter Sheila, 14, was sleeping over at a neighbor's cabin. Her sons Rick, 10, and Greg, 5, were in a back bedroom with their friend Justin Smartt, 12.
At some point that night, Sue, her son John, 15, and John's friend Dana Wingate, 17, were bound with medical tape and electrical wire and killed. Sue's daughter Tina, 12, was taken from the cabin. The next morning, April 12, Sheila returned and found the bodies. Tina was missing. The three boys in the back bedroom had slept through it all, unharmed.
Tina's partial remains were found in 1984 near Feather Falls in Butte County, about 50 miles away. No one has ever been charged. As of September 2026, the case is officially unsolved.

What the record establishes.
- Apr 11, 1981 · evening
A Saturday night at Cabin 28. Sue Sharp is home with her children; Sheila, 14, is at a sleepover at the Seabolts' cabin next door. John and Dana hitchhike into Quincy that afternoon and come back.

Around 8 a.m., Sheila returns from the sleepover and finds the bodies of her mother, her brother, and Dana in the living room. She runs back to the neighbors; deputies are called. Tina is missing. Rick, Greg, and Justin are found unharmed in a back bedroom.
- 1981
The first investigation. The sheriff's office works the cabin: the victims were bound with medical tape and electrical wire, then stabbed, bludgeoned, and strangled. Later reporting documents lost evidence and a vanished chronological log.
- 1984
Tina is found. Partial remains of Tina Sharp turn up near Feather Falls in Butte County, roughly 50 miles from Keddie, three years after she was taken.
- 2000 · reported
An anonymous letter from a counselor, said to name the perpetrators, surfaces in later coverage of the case.

Cabin 28 is demolished.
CITED [2] - Mar 2016
A man with a metal detector finds a steel blue-handled claw hammer in a pond near Keddie. It matches the description of a hammer Marty Smartt told investigators he had lost. Sheriff Greg Hagwood has it tested for DNA and blood residue.
- Nov 2016
The case breaks back into national coverage. People magazine and the Sacramento Bee report on Sheila Sharp's fight for answers; Sheriff Hagwood says there are at least six living persons of interest, and that the Smartt-Boubede theory is being worked to the degree possible “to conclude or dismiss.”
CITED [9] - Apr 2018
A DNA announcement. Special investigator Mike Gamberg announces that DNA recovered from medical tape at the scene matches a known living person of interest. No name is released publicly. No charges follow, and the sheriff's office does not publicly confirm the claim. This file marks it unverified.
