In March 2016, a steel blue-handled claw hammer was recovered from a pond near Keddie by a man with a metal detector. It matched the description of a hammer Marty Smartt told investigators he had lost, and Sheriff Greg Hagwood had it tested for DNA and blood residue.
Does not show
That the hammer is a murder weapon. Testing was reported; no public result has tied it to the scene.
